A Determination Unshaken by Fear nor Force
After facing besiegement, losing her mother and sisters, and being displaced with rifles aimed at her, Mais Al-Aloul continued her medical journey and remained full of hope.
His Story
Mais Shahda Al-Aloul, a medical student at Al-Azhar University in Gaza.
During the war, Mais and her family had lost their home as well as her mother and two of her sisters. Her situation got dire as they had been besieged during the early months of war, being forcefully displaced, with guns and tanks aimed directly at her. Yet, she remained steady and Unfazed. Her education remained a goal she would not compromise.
Mais often volunteered at the Indonesian hospital, treating the wounded to the best of her ability. She would then return, but not to rest or study yet, rather to help her siblings carry water over long distances. Only at the end of the day, would she find herself able to immerse herself in her books, something she found a passion in.
She later on published her first book “’My Amphoteric Friend”, describing the admirable story of her survival.
The Impact of the Scholarship
Mais had gone through displacement under gunfire and bombardment, preceded by besiegement. The tuition coverage provided to her by the Samir Scholarship was a helping hand, much needed, in the journey of an indefatigable doctor.
“Completing medical school is not just an academic journey; it is a loyalty to the blood of my mother and siblings.”
– Mais Shahda Al-Aloul
