A Chance to Heal: Sewar’s Surgical Journey
Diagnosed with Hirschsprung’s disease (absence of nerves in the colon, leading to severe constipation, often for days at a time) at the age of 5, Sewar Qasem’s health was far from optimal.
She had to consistently have enemas and laxative suppositories administered to her fragile body. While those are a form of management, they were not the definitive treatment she desperately needed.
That is where Samir Foundation’s Pediatric Surgery Program sought to ensure Sewar’s recovery, refusing to let a financial burden stand in the way of her well-being. Thus, her recovery journey started.
The program not only relieved her parents of a financial burden, it also provided a comprehensive recovery journey. Safe and thorough social, medical, surgical and psychological well-being were all ensured by members of Samir Foundation’s team.
Our insistence on providing the best care started from calling the parents and informing them with the calming news that their children’s health recovery will soon become a reality.
Members of Samir Foundation’s team welcomed the patients’ families on their first visit, guiding them through every step. From taking personal data, documenting medical examination and investigation, educating the patients’ parents on pre and post surgical care and expectations, providing toys and healthy snacks to help calm the children before their surgeries, and providing psychological counselling, Samir Foundation’s team ensured that every part of each child’s recovery would be optimal.
Today Sewar’s full recovery is one step closer to becoming a reality, but our job is not yet finished…
