From Helplessness to Healing: Dina’s Promise
His Story
Dina Abu-Ghaban, A medical student at the Al-Azhar University in Gaza.
After seeing her late father’s struggle against disease, Dina promised herself to become a medical Doctor, a hope that he also carried. During the war, tragedy struck again, and Dina’s brother bled out and was martyred in front of a, then, helpless Dina, after their residence was targeted following days of besiegement and hunger.
Dina’s promise grew more inevitable. Continuing her education and becoming a doctor was now a vow fueled by her late loved ones, unstoppable.
The Impact of the Scholarship
Fueled by the loss of her father and brother, Dina’s medical journey carried an overwhelming weight that she was determined to take on. The Samir Scholarship aimed to alleviate some of that weight, and to help a determined Dina see her medical journey through.
“I didn’t enter medicine just as a childhood dream. It was born from my father’s moans and his exhaustion.”
